After every final the winners step onto the podium: gold in the centre, silver on the left, bronze on the right. Olympic Council of Asia officials present the medals, the winner’s anthem plays and the flags are raised. The 80 mm Aichi–Nagoya medals were designed by Daisuke Shiba, who broke ceramic discs again and again to find a shape recalling the athlete’s hard road; the ribbon shows irises, Aichi’s flower.
